Iran, Harbinger of Unity, Official

TEHRAN Majlis deputy Ali Tajernia said on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran was a harbinger of unity that prevents disintegration and discord in society.

Addressing a gathering of people from the border city of Taybad, Tajernia who is a representative from Mashhad, Khorasan Province said that necessary mechanisms are needed in order to preserve unity.

Speaking on the occasion of the Unity Week which bridges the differences between Shi'a and Sunni Muslim Practices such as the week-long disparity in birth date of Prophet Mohammad (S) he said that when unity is being stressed opportunities for the preservation of unity should be taken into consideration as well, noting that unity is not compatible with enjoining.

Criticizing negligence on the part of certain officials towards the issue of meritocracy, Tajernia said that the reform-oriented government is trying to guarantee equal rights for all and remove any discrimination in society.

He also criticized those who ignore people's rights and said certain groups of people are after creating frustration and hopelessness in the society.

Tajernia stressed on the fact that the vigilant Iranian people are witnesses to growing effective steps for the progress of the society although the accomplishments that have been fulfilled so far are still far away from people's demands.

However, Tajernia stressed that massive turnout of people in the June 8 presidential elections will enable the reform movement to make further progress.
